What a Baptist Believes
I. In the One true God of the Bible and that He is manifested as 3 persons The Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost (Spirit) that make up the Godhead or Trinity (1 John 5:7)
1 John 5:7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.
II. In the verbal inspiration of the Scriptures and their absolute reliability and authority, without error, in the original manuscripts (and the preservation of the King James Version, authorized version 1611).
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
III. In the virgin birth, atoning death, bodily resurrection, and deity of Jesus Christ. (Luke 1:34-35; Romans 5:8; Matthew 28:1-8; Mark 16:1-8; Luke 24:1-11; John 1:1&14)
IV. That man is a fallen creature, sinful by nature and choice, and can only become a child of God by regeneration by the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit.
(Romans 3:10&23; Revelations 21:8; II Corinthians 5:17; Romans 12:1-2)
V. That salvation is by faith in Christ as our substitute, on the merits of His atoning death and shed blood. (Ephesians 2:8-9)
VI. In Christ’s pre-millennial second coming (by which we mean the pre-tribulation rapture position, or the imminent return of Christ. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)
